Εμπνευσμένες κωδικές ονομασίες

Μου έκανε εντύπωση η ονομασία της νέας έκδοσης του Ubuntu και έψαξα λίγο τις παλιότερες.
Σπάνια δίνει κάποιος σημασία στην ονομασία της έκδοσης. Ωστόσο το ubuntu πιστεύω ότι είναι αρκετά εντυπωσιακό σε αυτό το ζήτημα.
Και μόνο το όνομα της διανομής που είναι μια αρχαία αφρικανική λέξη, που σημαίνει "humanity to others " είναι αρκετά εντυπωσιακό το πως το σκέφτηκαν.
Οι κωδικές ονομασίες των εκδόσεών του είναι εξίσου εντυπωσιακές. Κατ' αρχάς αποτελούνται από δύο λέξεις που αρχίζουν από το ίδιο γράμμα. Οι μεταφράσεις είναι αυτές που φαίνονται παρακάτω:
- Warty Warthog = (To warty δεν ξέρω τι σημαίνει) φακόχοιρος (2004-10-20)
- Hoary Hedgehog = Ασπρομάλλης σκαντζόχοιρος (2005-04-08 )
- Breezy Badger = Πρόσχαρος Ασβός (2005-10-13)
- Dapper Drake = Κομψή Πάπια (2006-06-01)
- Edgy Eft = Ευέξαπτη Σαλαμάνδρα (2006-10-26)
- Feisty Fawn = Επιθετικό Ελαφάκι (2007-04-19)
- Gutsy Gibbon = Τολμηρός Γίββωνας (2007-10-18 )
- Hardy Heron = Σκληραγωγημένος Ερωδιός (2008-04-24)

Από το 4 και μετά είναι και τα γράμματα με τη σειρά. Αν λείπει κάτι μεταξύ 3 και 4 που να αρχίζει από C τότε θα είναι σχεδόν όλη η σειρά

Όχι δε λείπει κάτι στο ενδιάμεσο. Τουλάχιστον από τις εκδόσεις που κυκλοφόρησαν. Ποιος ξέρει? Μπορεί να ήταν καμιά αποτυχημένη έκδοση

αυτή τη σελίδα στην οποία οι εμπνευστές εξηγούν την προέλευση των ονομάτων, δηλώνουν ότι από το "Breezy Badger" και μετά όλα θα είναι με αλφαβητική σειρά, αλλά παίζει να παραλείψουν κάποια γράμματα και ζητάνε ιδέες για να επιλέξουν τα επόμενα ονόματα

And voila, the name stuck. The first mailing list for the Ubuntu team was called "warthogs", and we used to hang out on #warthogs on irc.freenode.net. For subsequent releases we wanted to stick with the "hog" names, so we had Hoary Hedgehog, and Grumpy Groundhog. But "Grumpy" just didn't sound right, for a release that was looking really good, and had fantastic community participation. So we looked around and came up with "Breezy Badger". We will still use "Grumpy Groundhog", but those plans are still a surprise to be announced...
For those of you who think the chosen names could be improved, you might be relieved to know that the "Breezy Badger" was originally going to be the "Bendy Badger" (I still think that rocked). There were others...
For all of our sanity we are going to try to keep these names alphabetical after Breezy. We might skip a few letters, and we'll have to wrap eventually. But the naming convention is here for a while longer, at least. The possibilities are endless. Gregarious Gnu? Antsy Aardvark? Phlegmatic Pheasant? You send 'em, we'll consider 'em.
