Computer Simulation of Nanostructured Materials

Over the past few years many exciting properties of nanosized structures and particles [i.e. carbon nanotubes] have been discovered. To exploit their potential in applications, strategies are needed to design and manufacture materials, which contain these building blocks in the desired conformation.

We use computer simulations and modeling to investigate nanostructured materials and develop rational strategies for their design. As experimentation at the nanoscale is very challenging and expensive, computer simulations will play a key role in the future advancement of Nanotechnology.

Candidates for this PhD project should have a strong interest in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Knowledge of a programming language and a background in Statistical Mechanics, Thermodynamics or related fields would be advantageous.
