Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD Student to undertake research in the area of Computer Vision and Machine Learning in the Centre of Intelligent Systems in Queen Mary, University of London. The position is supported by an EU project and falls in the area of modeling and recognition of Human Actions in large video collections. The work will build on recent developments in Computer Vision and Machine Learning for learning human facial/body/hand gestures from few examples, with emphasis on transfer learning for cross-modality, cross-category and cross-view learning.

Applicant

The applicant should have
- a degree (preferably MSc) in Computer Science or Electrical/Electronic Engineering
- excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Good programming skills and preferably experience with Matlab or C/C++.
- Experience in one of the fields of Computer Vision and/or Machine Learning, and/or Statistical Pattern Recognition and/or Image processing. Preferably an MSc thesis in one of those areas.
- Good mathematical background.

The studentships cover both tuition fees and a stipend.


The research will be supervised by Dr Ioannis Patras (http://www.eecs.qmul.ac.uk/~ioannisp/) at School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, Queen Mary University of London. Όχι, το ανέρτησαν εδώ για πλάκα. Προφανώς και μπορεί.

Ένας Σεμφίτης πχ με ροές Ανάλυση και Μηχανική και εν γένει θεωρητικό-αναλυσιακό προφίλ (σαν το δικό σου (!) ) μπορεί να κάνει αίτηση σε διδακτορικό που ζητά σαφώς πτυχίο σε ''Computer Science or Electrical/Electronic Engineering" ???
Δεν αμφισβητεί κανείς την ανάρτηση, αλλά μάλλον χρειάζονται διευκρινίσεις για το background του υποψηφίου Σεμφίτη.

Θεωρώ την παρατήρησή σου άστοχη (και ενοχλητική σε ένα τόσο ενδιαφέρον topic). Δε νομίζω ότι χρειάζονται παραπάνω διευκρινίσεις. Όποιος έχει τα απαραίτητα προσόντα το ξέρει, δε χρειάζεται να του το πούμε εμείς.

Rule of thumb για αιτήσεις για διδακτορικά (όχι στις ΗΠΑ)- Δεν έχει σημασία τόσο πολύ ο τίτλος του πτυχίου η τι γράφει στο χαρτί, αλλα τι ξέρεις, ποιόν ξέρεις, και τι έχεις να δείξεις (δημοσιεύσεις-εργασίες κλπ).
