ΑΝΑΚΟΙΝΩΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΔΗΠΑΚ

Η ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΚΗ ΠΑΝΕΠΙΣΤΗΜΟΝΙΚΗ ΚΙΝΗΣΗ ΑΕΙ, εκφράζει την θλίψη της για την απροσδόκητη και πρόωρη απώλεια του συντρόφου Δημοσθένη (Δήμου) Μπαρτζώκα, καθηγητή στη Σχολή Εφαρμοσμένων Μαθηματικών και Φυσικών Επιστημών του ΕΜΠ.

Ο σύντροφος Δήμος είχε τάξει τον εαυτό του στο αγώνα για τη διεκδίκηση ενός κόσμου δίκαιου, με κοινωνική ευημερία, όπου δεν θα έχει θέση η εκμετάλλευση ανθρώπου από άνθρωπο. Για χρόνια πάλευε από τις γραμμές της ΔΗΠΑΚ για την υπεράσπιση του Δημόσιου Δωρεάν Πανεπιστημίου, για το δικαίωμα του λαού στη μόρφωση, για πανεπιστημιακή έρευνα προσανατολισμένη στην εξυπηρέτηση των λαϊκών αναγκών.

Η ΔΗΠΑΚ εκφράζει τα βαθειά της συλλυπητήρια στην οικογένεια του συντρόφου Δήμου.

Η κηδεία του Δήμου θα γίνει το Σάββατο στις 11.00 στο κοιμητήριο Ζωγράφου.

I was born in 1952 in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, by a family of political refugees from Greece. In 1970, after succeeding in the required exams I became a student in the Mechanical-Mathematical School of the State University of Tashkent. At the third year of my studies I choose Mechanics as my specialization with the Theory of Elasticity being my prime focus. In 1975 I was awarded my degree “Master of Sciences” (in Physics and Mathematics).
After the repatriation of my family in 1975, I was appointed as a scientific research associate by the Chair of Mechanics of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). My doctoral thesis in Mechanics was awarded “Excellent” and in 1984 I advanced at the grade of Lecturer in the Mechanics Department of NTUA. From 1989 to 1997 I served as Assistant Professor, from 1997 to 2003 I worked as an Associate Professor, and in 2003 I was elected full Professor in the Department of Mechanics.
During the 30 years that I have been working at the National Technical University of Athens I have been teaching Theoretical Mechanics, Strength and Endurance of Materials, Integral Equations, Mechanics of Coupled Fields, Seismic Mechanics and Mathematical Methods in Mechanics.
My research interests are the Mathematical Theory of Elasticity, Thermoelasticity, Electroelasticity, Fracture Mechanics, Composite Materials, Contact Mechanics, Computational Methods, Wave Propagation and Mechanics of Earthquakes and I have published more than 110 papers in the above fields. I have active co-operation with many scientists from the former USSR as it can be seen from the list of my published work.
