Postdoctoral/PhD positions in the LOFAR Reionization Key-Science Project

------------------------------------------------------------

Applications are invited for several PDR (postdoctoral) and PhD
research positions at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute of the
University of Groningen.

The successful PDR/PhD applicants will work with Prof. Leon Koopmans on
various aspects of the processing and analysis of LOFAR radio data
from the Epoch-of-Reionization (EoR) Key Science Project (KSP), which
is one of the defining observational projects of LOFAR, lead by
Profs. Koopmans, de Bruyn and Zaroubi.

One PhD position is available on theoretical research on dense/sparse
aperture arrays (e.g. LOFAR/SKA) studying novel observing modes and
strategies for radio-interferometric observations of the EoR. All
positions are funded by a large European Research Council grant and
come with a competitive salary, a travel budget and full benefits.

Qualified PDR/PhD candidates must have an PhD/MSc degree in astronomy,
physics or signal processing by the date of appointment. Experience
with interferometric radio observations at cm to meter wavelengths is
desirable, but not necessary.

The appointment will be made for an initial period of two years for
the PDRs with the possibility for an extension to three years,
contingent on performance and funding. The PhDs position are for four
years. The starting date is negotiable and could be as early as the
winter of 2010.

PDR/PhD applicants should send a cover letter with a CV, publication
record, and description of research interests+experience and arrange
for three/two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to
Prof. Leon Koopmans at the above address (electronic submission in PDF
format is preferable). Applications received by Nov. 15th 2010,
receive full consideration, but the search will continue until the
positions are filled.
